It's 3am, I Must Be....

Running!

This morning I am leaving for Florida for a family reunion type thing to celebrate my Grandpa turning 90! I am picking the lovely cousin up at 5:30am and had originally planned on doing this run when I got down there. Then I was like...If I just get up really early I can squeeze in a 5 mile recovery. So that's what we did.

You know who is up at 3am? All the cool kids going home from a night of partying...I always feel really stupid running by these people. Out of a car window we heard, "HEY THAT'S SOME DEDICATION RUNNING AT 4AM....WHEN I GROW UP I WANT TO BE JUST LIKE YOU". Yes I am dedicated...thanks.....when you grow up? Really? I'm that old? Although if my 22 year old self could see my almost 28 year old self she would be all, "Dude...how are you out there running? Didn't you just get home?"

Tomorrow my dad is going to help me out with my 17 with 14 @ MRP. I guess he has a course all marked out in Florida where he could follow me in the car with Gatorade, water and Gus. Excellent.

Nice job getting the 5 miles done at 3am! And that is awesome of your dad to have already mapped out a course and follow along on your 17 mile run tomorrow. Have a great time in Florida and Happy Birthday to your Grandpa!!

That's too funny. I once got up at three in the morning to run seventeen miles before sitting in a continuing education class all day. Imagine my dismay when I realized it was pouring down rain at 3am and I wasn't quite brave enough to run in the rain and the dark...so I ran, on the treadmill, for seventeen miles, at 3am. It sucked.
Way to hang in there though!

Great effort, Leah. I find it totally funny what those post-party prep kids were saying. You have more heart than any of them would.

Yes! I can totally relate! Training for Chicago in Memphis summer heat has gotten me up pre-ass-crack of dawn many times to avoid the heat of the sun so we can run in 80 degree temps and by the time we are done our long run it's only 95 with high humidity instead of 105 with high humidity! Gotta love seeing college students in a cab on their way back from a night of partying when you have just gotten up to run! Running near Beale St and Main St is fun at 4 or 5am! Don't you think the best part of running so early is that you aren't awake yet and thus cannot feel the pain? :)
