I don't know what to say.
I have never been that sad about a sporting event (even the 2003 Cubs which just about killed me...5 outs away from the World Series....5 outs....ok, maybe I was just as sad then). I was so freakin' pumped for the game, I have read almost every Bears article this season, have treated Monday mornings like Christmas morning because I was excited to read the Bears coverage in the paper, memorized the words to Bear Down, heard the Superbowl Shuffle about once a day on Chicago radio.
And now it's over.
I wanted them to come out and shut all the "Peyton is God" announcers the hell up.
After by far the most exciting event in Chicago Sports ever with Devin Hester running back the opening kickoff (the bar we were at went INSANE), I didn't think the Bears could lose. They were up a touchdown and our defense could hold down the fort.
Rex had a fine game, not a great second half...but he looked good in the first half and I'm excited to see what he can do next year. He lead a very injured Bears team to the Superbowl in his FIRST full season. So here's hoping with a Mike Brown and Tommie Harris healthy next year we can be the defensive team that we were at the beginning of the season and with a Rex a year older and a year wiser he can bring Good Rex to the table more than Bad Rex.
We laughed & we cried....but in the end, holy crap is it fun having a team in the big game. Jason by the way just decided to be pissed about every play....he didn't root for anyone.....which I have to say was a bit annoying since either way one of his teams was going to win.....now then.
Like one of the headlines in the paper today : 261 days till kickoff.
Go Bears.
Go Cubs (9 days till pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training.)

I thought of you when Hester took off like that. I could only imagine how your place would go mental.
I disagree about Grossman (thought he was poor after the first quarter), but there's always next year, right?
grossman had a passer rating of 120 at the end of the first half.....although I don't know how much of that was in the first or second quarter.
> Rex had a fine game
Really?
i'm not going to get into an argument about rex. He had a shitty second half coupled with a nice first half = mediocre.
Remember Manning is in his ninth NFL season and in his first season he threw more interceptiosn than touchdown passes. AND he threw three interceptions in one of their playoff games this year.....why isn't anyone saying, let's take him off the team. You don't lose a football game because of one player. there are 40 men playingthe game and we didn't have any aspect of the game. It's easy to say well it's all REx's fault....but it's not...it can't be.
Sorry Leah, I know it is tough to watch your team go all that way and then not get it done, been there done that. Chin up there is always next year. And that is tbe beauty of sport. :-)
Leah's exactly right. I think the problem was a lot more the 200 yards of rushing by the Colts which kept Rex and his offense off the field. They weren't able to establish a running game (almost all of Jones's yards came on one play) and no quarterback is going to do well when he's made one dimensional.
Remember how bad Peyton had been in the playoffs? That was because the Colts running game was shut down and so everyone know Peyton was going to pass. Same thing with Grossman.
The problem was partly Rex, partly the O-Line, and partly the defense. The interceptions at the end of the game were unfortunate, but that wasn't why they lost. Give him time to mature and maybe he'll be able to carry a team and then you can put it all on him, but this time it was a team effort.
Oh, and the Cedric Benson injury wasn't too helpful either. He would have made a huge difference powering up the middle.
Things didn't work out this time, but it wasn't Grossman's fault.
thanks bob :-)
Personally I was upset at the end of the game. I was in the car listening to the awesome opening TD with my mouth on the floor. WOW! I just need a few extra sock stuff the peanut gallery here at home. (The stinkier the better!) I have gracious fulfilled my temp Bears fan status.
Now I can officially say this: GO VIKES...next year. :D
*cough* diplomacy at its greatest.
Definitely a game worth staying up for!!
I completely agree with Leah about Rex. He's still very young and only has something like 27 starts under his belt. I really don't understand why the fans and the sports media in Chicago are ready to throw him under the bus. Granted, there have been times where Rex hasn't looked like an NFL quarterback but he's got to be given some slack. He's definitely better than Joey Harrington, Kyle Boller, and David Carr who don't/didn't get as much hell even though all 3 of them haven't taken their respective teams to the playoffs never mind the super bowl (and perhaps not even a winning record although I don't have the stats to back me up on that right now). I can see Rex turning out to be the next Drew Brees--a rough start to his career but inevitably finds his way. That said, however, it wouldn't be a bad thing to light a fire under his ass by bringing in someone to compete for the job next season.
I'm hearing a lot of people rushing to forgive Rex Grossman and his uneven performance this season. So yeah, he's young and no doubt he'll develop into a fine QB someday.
Isn't there someplace we can send him in the meantime? Does the NFL have the equivalent of baseball's minor leagues?
Let's send Rex to No Fumble University and give someone else a chance to throw the football around next spring.
Am I the only one who feels this way?
I think it's safe to say that the game made me sick.
Literally.
And just so you kids know, I'm hella embarassed about that. I'm sorry. :(
barb-
uh....yeah....me pacing the bar and crying like an idiot on the way home.....yeeeeah.
bring on the Cubs season...we can cry again in October.
Two words: Bad Rex.
